To effectively use the targeted recruitment process you must form a small commi ttee which will:

  1. Define the job.
  2. Determine the qualifications to do the job.
  3. List of the potential candidates in order of preference.
  4. interview the best candidate.
  5. Hire the successful candidate.

Sources of potential candidates might be:

When setting up the interview, keep in mind the following:
WHERE: candidate's home or office
WHEN: as soon as possible
WHAT TO TAKE ALONG: job description and resources
WHO DOES THE INTERVIEW: two committee members

The magic recruitment phrase is:

You are the best person available for this job.

What needs to be given to the selected candidate before they begin the job?

  1. tools and resources
  2. training for the job
  3. time to clear the decks

Jackson further suggests that: "Once the person has agreed to take on your volu nteer position you will want to keep them. You do that through training, respect and recognition, through co-operation and through innovative programming."
